RED
MITE!

AN EXCITING AND VALUABLE ANNOUNCEMENT!

NOW - There is something quite New which will change the whole attitude towards RED MITES and their destruction before they even start their Blood Sucking attacks on your birds.

It has been thought for sometime that it would be absolutely wonderful if the Chickens, Ducks and other birds could actually use the Diatoms as DUST BATHS! And Now - we are informed, the Biocide Directive of the Health and Safety Executive has cleared the Diatoms actually for this very use!! - THE BIRDS' DUST BATHS!!

The Diatoms adhere to feathers and feathers'shaft of the birds, because of static, when the birds climb into the tray used to contain the Diatoms and give themselves a Dust Bath! That is as far as the RED MITES get!! They are destroyed before they can reach the skin of the birds.

This is, frankly, a dramatic benefit in respect of keeping your birds completely clear of these invasive and dangerous pests. May we draw your attention to the details below covering the use of the Diatoms in a Dust Bath. The quantity has to be considerably larger than the units we have been sending. Because of the substantial reduction in the cost of Tubs, containing the Diatoms for the Poultry Houses, Perches and Nest Boxes, we are now able to supply larger amounts at a very useful saving!

It is clear that customers can use small units to top up the DUST BATHS and use on the floors and perches - taking it from the larger Tubs we now despatch containing the DIATOMS. There are immense benefits and savings using the Diatoms in this manner. You will be absolutely delighted, as we are!

All you need is a Tray - Plastic, Metal or Wood - A very large Plastic Cat Litter Tray is ideal with a plastic lip surround at the top.

You need to put the Tray in a place where the birds can always gain easy access. Use one part dry earth and two parts DIATOMS

It is, of course, very important that it is placed where the rain cannot spoil it - ideally, under a covered area or inside their House. Some make small table-like units with food under, so avoiding the rain. Ideal for Dust Bath.

It is essential that the DIATOMS do not get wet otherwise they will not work as well. Diatoms are made up of the shells of minute sea creatures crushed under extreme pressure. The shells, which are the only things left, will not work if they are softened by liquid or damp of any sort.

We are now supplying the larger quantities required for additional use with Dust Baths in TUBS whichwill take 2.5kgs and 5kgs

When filled with Diatoms, the nett weight of contents is either approx TWO and a HALF KILOGRAMS or the larger unit approx FIVE KILOGRAMS! The contents can also be used on the floor of the Poultry Houses, Aviaries etc., along the Perches and in the Nest Boxes. Why is it STILL needed in these places? Because not all birds use the Dust Baths. If they do, it may not be often enough. Therefore the Mites need to be destroyed at every point! Keep them dry and they will work continually!

(The cost of largest unit is substantially lower than two medium units)

  • ONE SMALL UNIT (approx 1.5 Kilograms) ......... £8.90
(Plus contribution towards Carriage and Packing) ......... £7.90
  • ONE COMPLETE UNIT (approx 2.5 Kilograms) ......... £17.60
(Plus contribution towards Carriage and Packing) ......... £7.90

DIATOMS FOR

KILLING RED MITES, FLEAS, TICKS, LICE AND ALL CREEPING NASTIES! On Poultry, Cage Birds, Pigeons, Dogs, Cats, Horses - EVERY Creature with fur or feather!

These Diatoms are probably the most effective way of killing, not just RED MITE, but also other Mites, Fleas and Lice, Ticks, Horse Flies and all other crawling nasties.

The application of the Diatoms must take place when the Aviary or Poultry House has been cleaned out and is DRY! - ie. do not use disinfectant before using the Diatoms or apply on a damp floor.

TAKE REASONABLE CARE when spreading the Diatoms, which, although looking like powder, are very sharp. They are, in fact, the sharp shells of trillions of tiny sea creatures 4,358 years old, said to have come from the Bible Flood of Noah's day. When the Poultry Houses or Aviaries are dry, spread a little pile of Diatoms on the floor - with a soft brush, gently spread over the floor area. Carefully apply to ends of perches; along perches; where walls meet walls and floors. Especially spread well in and around Nest Boxes.

Recognise that Red Mite in particular can even hide behind splinters. A number can sit on a pin head. They are transparent, until they start sucking their hosts' blood, and then they are clearly visible.

Ensure the Diatoms are handled carefully so as not to get into your eyes. They will do no harm if swallowed by birds or even you! Just recognise that they are sharp, even though they look like powder.

When tiny creatures such as Red Mites touch these Diatoms, the sharp edges cut into the Mites, and open them up. They then dry out.

Mite eggs that have been laid before you use the Diatoms, clearly are unable to move, so you should adopt the same procedure eight days later a further application only if needed, by which time they have hatched.

Please note - the real damage is done by these young Mites - at 5-9 days old they start their blood sucking expeditions!!

It does no harm to sprinkle an extra amount on top of any bedding or floor shavings, providing they are relatively dry. Every three or four days, put a little at the end and along the perches - most important!

Keep unused quantities of the Diatoms in a cool dry place. They will last a long time, recognising they are already thousands of years old! You can therefore save money by buying several or larger Units at the same time to save money, and travelling/post.

DUST BATHS - now that the Biocide Directive of the Health and Safety Executive have cleared the DIATOMS for use in Dust Baths - you can save substantially on other items. The Diatoms adhere to the feathers and Mites, Ticks, Lice and Fleas cannot get down to the skin. You should mix one part VERY DRY earth with two parts Diatoms. The birds seem to prefer this mix - as they are always dusting in soil.

IF USING DUST BATHS - STILL APPLY IN HOUSING & NEST BOXES AS PER NORMAL TO COVER EVERY EVENTUALITY!

If you keep Pigeons, Canaries, Budgerigars or other birds, please ring and we will help you with the method of dealing with them. The same with dogs, cats and horses. However, it should be recognised that the Mum and Dad Mites, can live without food for up to thirty six weeks without food, and on warmer and brighter days they will wake up and start their egg laying routines.

If you have not dealt with the Mites correctly, you will DEFINITELY HAVE THEM!!!

RED MITES, Fleas, Ticks, Lice and others, can be picked up in the grass by any animal, or bird, or even us humans. They are also airborne, so you will never be completely clear of them.

It is important therefore, that the Diatoms should be applied at regular intervals, unexpectedly as through Autumn and Winter they will come to life on warm spells & high humidity, & start laying!!

Cage Birds of all types, Canaries, Budgerigars and Foreign Birds have benefited dramatically, as have all types and sizes of Poultry. With dogs, cats cavies and horses and other hair covered animals, with someone holding the animal still, push the hair towards the base of the neck and gently spread the Diatoms along the back only of the animal. Any crawling creatures will eventually move along the animal's back and that will be the end of their blood sucking escapade!
