VITAMINS:
Most good quality foods contain the basic vitamins and aminoacids, but not all those required by Poultry. It is very important therefore to ensure that a full range is given to the birds regularly. When birds are in full lay, give every day for a week, once each month. All other times include in the water twice a week - say Tuesday and Friday, or whatever suits. Use three small teaspoonfuls per 10 litres of cold water, just turn the water colour yellow. Vitamins included...

PRILLS:
All Poultry are subject to attack or aggravation from Mites, Litter Beetles and Flies. The brown and white mites – are generally known as RED MITES. This is because they climb onto the bird and literally suck its blood, so turning it red in colour. The birds suffer badly as a consequence, which affects their general health, their egg laying ability and size of egg. It is essential the mites are dealt with. They breed fast and do so in any wet patches which are also warm. These mites can attack Chickens, Bantams, Ducks, Geese, Turkeys and Cage Birds. The birds gain protection when they climb into their nest boxes to lay, or use a dust bath. The heat from the bird causes a mist to rise from the PRILLS which attacks and destroys the mites. The PRILLS should also be sprinkled in any wet patches as well as nest boxes and dust baths and over the floor of their houses, at the rate of 2-3 grams per square metre. The effect they have, depending on their environment, can last from a few days up to two weeks. Then it is wise to spread more PRILLS. It is important to note that the PRILLS also kill fly and litter beetle larvae. This is essential through hot periods (when they come!) as far as common flies are concerned, which spread disease unbelievably fast. We all like to think our birds benefit from being Free Range, but ironically there is considerable risk in the incidence of mites and other pests. DIATOMS are for the Housing, perches and nest Boxes - Prills for Mites actually on the birds themselves.

DISINFECTANT.
All Poultry Houses need to be cleaned regularly and in particular, thoroughly treated with a first class DISINFECTANT. There is one that we sell, primarily because it acts as special deterrent against NEWCASTLE DISEASE – generally referred to as Fowl Pest. Get this with your birds and the Ministry will destroy your flock, however small or large, and refuse to allow you to keep birds on the same property for at least six months. It is used with water, either in a garden spray unit, or just painted all over with a brush. Let the house dry during the day, replace shavings and hay in the nest boxes and back the birds go in the evening to thrive once more. Housing should be cleaned and disinfected every six weeks or at the very least 8 weeks.

It has been thought for sometime that it would be absolutely wonderful if the Chickens, Ducks and other birds could actually use the Diatoms as DUST BATHS! And Now - we are informed, the Biocide Directive of the Health and Safety Executive has cleared the Diatoms actually for this very use!! - THE BIRDS' DUST BATHS!!

The Diatoms adhere to the feathers of the birds, because of static, when the birds climb into the tray used to contain the Diatoms and give themselves a Dust Bath! That is as far as the RED MITES get!! They are destroyed before they can reach the skin of the birds.

This is, frankly, a dramatic benefit in respect of keeping your birds completely clear of these invasive and dangerous pests. May we draw your attention to the details over the page covering the use of the Diatoms in a Dust Bath. The quantity has to be considerably larger than the units we have been sending. Because of the substantial reduction in the cost of Tubs, containing the Diatoms for the Poultry Houses, Perches and Nest Boxes, we are now able to supply larger amounts at a very useful saving!

It is clear that many customers will use the larger Units to top up their Tubs – and this we understand. There are immense benefits and savings using the Diatoms in this manner. You will be absolutely delighted, as we are!

All you need is a small Tray – Plastic, Metal or Wood – many suppliers such as Scats Country wide Stores sell such things, or you can even make them yourselves out of wood.

You need to put the Tray in a prominent place so the birds can always gain easy access.

It is, of course, very important that it is placed where the rain cannot spoil it – ideally, under a covered area or inside their House. Some make small table-like units with food under, so avoiding the rain.

It is essential that the DIATOMS do not get wet otherwise they will not work. Diatoms are made up of the shells of minute sea creatures crushed under extreme pressure. The shells, which are the only things left, will not work if they are softened by liquid of any sort.

We are supplying the larger quantities required for Dust Baths in Jerrycan Units normally designed for Five and Ten Litres of Liquid.

When filled with Diatoms, the nett weight of contents is either just over TWO KILOGRAMS or the larger unit with just under FIVE KILOGRAMS! The contents can also be used on the floor of the Poultry Houses, Aviaries etc., along the Perches and in the Nest Boxes. Why is it STILL needed in these places? Because not all birds use the Dust Baths.
If they do, it may not be often enough. Therefore the Mites need to bedestroyed at every point!

Do your birds sometimes peck each other, especially when birds are in moult? Are you obliged to keep your Poultry in a limited area? Do your birds sometimes pick on another bird that is off colour or has a disease problem?

THEN YOU NEED PECKING BLOCKS!

Do you want to keep your birds occupied and not bored to tears? If you answer positively to any of these questions – you need a PECKING BLOCK. We sell these cereal based items which are formulated with natural ingredients that the birds could normally find in their natural habitat. It is a practical and scientific way in which to prevent vices. IN ADDITION – the constant use by the birds using the block, keeps their beaks well trimmed and short! so alleviating other problems. Causes of feather pecking include: Boredom, Over Stocking, Bullying of sick birds, Excessive heat or humidity, Lighting too bright or uneven, Mixing sizes and ages of birds, Incorrect feeding, Insufficient fresh water and Poor ventilation.
